The Rice Paper Rebellion: When Art Refuses to Behave

Sometimes, art doesn’t go as planned — and that’s okay.
This piece started as a simple experiment: I wanted to explore how rice paper behaves on canvas. The goal? Something soft, organic, and quietly textured.

What I got instead… was a full-blown rice paper rebellion.
As the paper dried, it began to pull with a mind of its own. The canvas tore, the frame twisted, and I just stood there watching — half horrified, half amused.

It’s funny how materials sometimes seem alive. They stretch, resist, and reshape themselves — as if they’re saying, “You thought you were in control? Think again.”

I decided to embrace it. Maybe this isn’t a failed experiment at all, but a reminder that creation is conversation. Sometimes the material leads, and you follow.

So yes — the rice paper is winning for now.
But don’t worry, I’ll find a way to tame it. (Or maybe not. Maybe that’s the beauty of it.)

The beauty of imperfection

Art isn’t always about perfect results. It’s about process, play, and surrender.
Even in this “failed” attempt, there’s something raw and honest — a dance between control and chaos.

And honestly? That’s exactly what Makirama stands for:
handmade creation, natural materials, and the freedom to let art live its own life.
